Who writes this index and what it is trying to be.
Bereviyests is a small editorial index of hotels. It covers four categories and refuses to grow past them, because the moment an index tries to list everything it stops being useful for anything.
Why these four
Art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels have almost nothing in common except that each one is built around a single decision that overrides the usual hotel logic. An art hotel commissions work before it counts rooms. A capsule hotel engineers a berth and lets everything else be shared. A casino hotel carries a gaming floor among its facilities and plans its restaurants, theatres and event space accordingly. An ice hotel accepts that the whole building will be gone by April. Those are interesting constraints, and they produce buildings worth writing about.
How entries are written
Every description on this site was written for this site. We do not reprint press material, we do not aggregate reviews, and we do not assign scores. Where a fact could not be stated plainly and confidently, it was left out rather than hedged. If something here is wrong, we would rather hear about it than defend it.
What we are not
We are not a booking agent, a rate comparison tool, or an affiliate. There is no reservation system on this site and no commercial relationship with any property listed. Rooms are booked with the hotel.
Geography
The index is deliberately geo-neutral. Properties are chosen for what they are, not for where we happen to be, and the roster spans North America, Europe and Asia without treating any one of them as home.
